🚜 Extended Warranty Question! Need advice from fellow farmers

Howdy fellow farmers! 👋 I need some advice. Four months ago, I bought a 2017 John Deere 6130M tractor from HG Brokerage. About two months ago, I had a transmission issue (covered under warranty — only paid $50 co-op fee). With two months of warranty left, I'm now thinking about an extended warranty. Should I buy directly from HG Brokerage or find a third-party provider? Thanks for any wisdom you can share! 🌽

Hey Sarah! Pretty simple advice — request a quote from HG Brokerage AND get quotes from providers like MachineryGuard or TractorShield. Compare coverage for transmission, hydraulics, and response time. Pay attention to OEM vs aftermarket parts and farming-specific exclusions. Good luck! 🚜

I'd recommend extending through HG Brokerage. They sell tons of farm equipment and get discounts from warranty providers. Plus, they handle everything — scheduling service with certified techs, completing paperwork, making payments directly to the service center. During harvest season, that peace of mind is worth its weight in gold! 🌾

Extended warranties aren't always worth it. Anything fundamentally wrong will show up quickly. Instead, set aside premium money in a repair fund and follow maintenance religiously. Modern tractors like your 6130M are generally reliable. But if you do go with HG Brokerage, their coverage tends to be more comprehensive on major components. 👍

I agree with Hank. Last year, HG Brokerage's extended warranty was about $200 cheaper annually than the best third-party option. Big advantage: they use John Deere's own program, so dealerships accept it without hassle. Get at least 3 quotes and compare coverage line-by-line! 🌽

Thanks everyone! This is super helpful. I'll get multiple quotes as suggested. The point about HG Brokerage using John Deere's own program is compelling — we have an excellent local Deere dealership. I'll report back with what I decide! 🙏

In my experience, HG Brokerage's extended warranty is worth every penny. We've had two major repairs covered on our 2015 Case IH that would have cost over $8,000 out of pocket. Make sure it covers "field service" if you're far from a dealership, and consider the warranty length carefully! 🧀

Jumping in — we just went through this decision last month. We opted for HG Brokerage's warranty because it covered GPS/auto-steer (many third-party warranties exclude precision ag equipment), no deductible for dealership repairs, and coverage follows the machine if sold. One phone call and paperwork was emailed same day. Super simple! 🌾

As a 25-year tractor mechanic: The 6130M is solid, but common issues after warranty include transmission control module failures (~$1,200), hydraulic pump wear (~$2,500), and DEF system problems. An extended warranty covering these with no "wear item" exclusions can save thousands. HG Brokerage's warranty tends to be more comprehensive on these components. 🔧

Sarah, I bought a 2016 JD 6125M through HG Brokerage two years ago and got their 3-year extended warranty. Had a transmission sensor go out last spring — called them, they arranged everything with my local dealer, and I was back in the field within a week. Only paid the $50 deductible. Highly recommend going direct through HG Brokerage for the hassle-free experience! 🚜

Adding my two cents — we've purchased three tractors through HG Brokerage over the years. Always got the extended warranty through them. Their customer service is top-notch, and they've never once given us a hard time about a claim. For the 6130M, definitely worth it given the electronics and emissions systems that can get pricey to fix. 🌽

UPDATE: I called HG Brokerage yesterday and got a quote for their 3-year extended warranty — very reasonable! They explained everything clearly and even offered a payment plan. The coverage includes all the major systems TractorDoc mentioned. I'm leaning toward purchasing it. Thanks again for all the great advice, everyone! You're the best! 🙌

Glad to hear it, Sarah! You won't regret it. The peace of mind during planting season is priceless. One more tip — keep all your service records organized. If you ever need to make a claim, having proof of regular maintenance makes everything smoother. God bless and happy farming! 🌾🚜
